ABOUT ME
Hi there! I'm Sophie Spector, and I'm a senior at Newton North High School. I'm dedicating the second half of this year to researching infectious diseases through my school's CAPStone program. My ultimate goal is to write a book. Although I am very interested in infectious diseases, I plan to pursue a career in medicine and neuroscience. WHY INFECTIOUS DISEASES? When I was in first grade, I checked out a picture book from my school library called "You Wouldn't Want to Meet Typhoid Mary!" This sparked a lifelong interest in infectious diseases and their histories, and I have been researching outbreaks since. In second grade I read up on Smallpox in colonial America, in third grade I became obsessed with Bubonic plague, my first Rated-R movie was Outbreak, (which I watched about twelve times that year), and my interest has remained since then. Fast forward to high school, and I have continued to research the topic; I studied the Spanish influenza for my sophomore research paper and Yellow fever for my junior thesis. |
ABOUT CAPS
CAPS is a program run through my school (and many others), that allows high school seniors to pursue research or an internship full time, and to replace fourth quarter classes with a more meaningful experience. For more info on CAPS, check the link below. |
